Who We Are

We were birthed out of South Park United Methodist Church, an historic United Methodist church on Brown Street next to the University of Dayton who decided to follow a fresh vision and become a new kind of church-- a church that was not limited by the need to maintain an aging building or an institutional mindset. That meant- after decades of ministry in the same building- selling that building to move into a new, more contemporary, inviting space with the hopes of meeting a neighborhood in need with the good news of the gospel. And this is where we got our name--Neighborhood Church.

We were officially launched in 2017 after leasing space in the shopping center. Our hope is to be engaged in the lives of those around us and offer teaching, services and worship experiences relevant to the needs of a changing community. And in 2020, we merged with a sister church, Oakwood United Methodist Church, that was birthed out of Oak Street UMC in 1929, and the interesting part, Oak Street and South Park merged in the 1980's.

ALL are welcome.

We are committed to the historic Christian faith with an emphasis on loving God and loving our neighbor as ourselves, which Jesus told his followers was the greatest commandment. We are a part of the United Methodist Church, the second-largest Protestant denomination in the United State. We are connected with thousands of other Methodist congregations in the Miami Valley, throughout the nation, and around the world who are all committed to making disciples of Christian for the transformation of the world.
